We meet in Thabazimbi and ride to the Kransberg along the eastern side of the Marakele National Park, to a game farm in the Marken area, where we stay over. The next day, we pass the Masebe Nature Reserve and the Legend golf course with its amazing, true Waterberg vistas. Just before Nylstroom, we Experience a stunning pass before arriving at Vaalwater. The following morning, we ride the western side of Marakele National Park, ending our experience under the Kransberg portion with its stunning vistas.
We ride farm gravel roads and tar roads.
There is a tar road-only option, but on this route, you lose the True Waterberg Experience.
Day 1
We meet 09:00 in Thabazimbi at the Total Fuel Stop, where we all fill up. We head out towards the Kransberge and drive past Marakele National Park. Then we hit dirt and ride Bakkers Pass with Marakele’s eastern side and game farms all around us.
We fill up in Vaalwater and get some lunch.
After lunch, we head in the direction of Marken, passing the renowned Lapalala Wilderness area. In Marken we fill up and head to our overnight stop in luxury tents at a Game Lodge. There is a restaurant at the lodge.
Day 2
At 08:00, after an early breakfast (included), we head in an easterly direction, turning off through the Masebe Nature Reserve direction Nylstroom. On this route you see the True Waterberg! The road alternates between tar and gravel. We stop for lunch near the Legend Golf & Safari Resort. Riding onwards, we pass many establishments with natural hot springs, also the Doorndraai Dam.
We keep south and ride a beautiful pass that ends 5km before Nylstroom. We refuel in Nylstroom and head to Vaalwater for our second overnight stop.
Day 3
We search for breakfast, fill up and head in a westerly direction towards Lephalale (Ellisras). We ride around the other side of Marakele National Park and turn in the direction of Thabazimbi. Soon, we turn onto dirt and ride next to Marakele. We have lunch near Marakele’s main gate or in Thabazimbi, and head home.
